Muxtape is Back
Muxtape was one of my favorite new ideas when it first launched. Basically, anyone could use the site to create an online “mixtape” to share with their friends. There are some other sites with the same basic idea, Imeem comes to mind, but Muxtape was the simplest and the coolest looking.
The good times all came to an end before I even had time to create my second “tape.” Muxtape ended up getting shut down by the major labels over licensing. Wack.
Now their back with a new model: ”A minimalist platform for bands to promote their music and listeners to create mixes.”
I guess the current deal is that users will only be able to create mixes of music that is loaded to the site by artists. Not quite as cool as the previous model, where users uploaded whatever they wanted, but still alright with me.
Right now they’ve got of Francis and the Lights, Montreal, Cexman, Adron, Girl Talk, Dan Deacon, Apes & Androids, Old Gold, Reggie Watts, Amanda Palmer, Tony Bambino and Vulture Realty on their roster. I’m sure they plan to add more.
Expect to see a WRH muxtape soon… I wonder if my old account still works?
