What’s Really Hood?

Tokyo!

While in New York City last weekend, I checked out the new triptych titled Tokyo!. Each story takes place in Tokyo and have their individual twists. The first is Interior Design by Michel Gondry (The Science of Sleep, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), tells the familiar tale of a girlfriend living in her boyfriend’s shadows of success. I’d much rather not go into detail with the second by Leos Carax, Merde, as it’s name speaks for itself. If you happen to check this out, I recommend a long bathroom break at this time. The third is Shaking Tokyo by Korean director Bong Joon-ho, which was the most visually stimulating of them all with its warm tones and lonely hearts. Check your East Coast city for local listings, this hasn’t hit the West Coast yet, but definitely worth keeping on your radar.
